Looking For A Pet For The Kids? Consider Chickens

If you?re looking for the best pet for your children then you should consider getting chickens. One simple chicken coop, a few hens and you?re on your way to happy children.

Choosing a pet for your children isn?t easy. Everyone starts with the obvious choices, should it be a cat or dog?

Both have their problems. Whilst a cat is a lot of fun, and makes a fine pet, cats can be quite a problem.

Just ask any cat owner who has a cat that loves to scratch. The urge to scratch seems to be in built in cats. Watch one outside the house and sooner or later you?ll see him sharpening his claws on a tree in the garden.

And of course that?s fine if it?s just in the garden. However many of them will do the same on your favourite lounge chair. Or perhaps your dining room table.

In fact cats can do serious damage to your furniture, and it can be very hard to train out of them.

Dogs are a lovely pet. That?s provided they stay outside the house. Many dog owners allow their dogs inside the house, and fail to notice the buildup of dog smell and dog hair in the house.

Both dogs and cats can also be a problem when you go on holidays. Unless you happen to have a friendly relative or friend close by who is happy to come around to feed them you?ll have to look for pet accommodation which can be seriously expensive.

Not only that but a quality dog or cat can be very expensive, both to buy and to feed.

Chickens, on the other hand, are cheap to buy and cheap to feed, and as well as that they provide you with a healthy and tasty product, namely eggs.

And kids love chickens. Mine are happy to pick the chickens up and carry them around patting them. They love their chickens. And the chickens seem to enjoy the company.

It?s not difficult to house chickens. If you?re a basic handyman you can build a chicken house in a day, out of scrap materials, and that will be sufficient to keep your hens happy. And when you go on holidays if you leave enough food and water you can leave the chickens to look after themselves.

So if you?re looking for a great idea for a pet then consider chickens along with the other options. They make wonderful pets for kids.
