Lisa Brown, 42, Reunited With The Bike She Lost In 1970

When 11-year-old Lisa Brown rode her bike -- her first bike -- across a bridge over the Herring River in Massachusetts in 1970, she lost her footing, tumbling with the bike into the muddy water below.

Brown, now 42, was fine, but she thought the bike was gone forever. Forty years later, that childhood bike has reappeared. The rust-covered, banana-seated bike was recently spotted tucked in the woods near the river, the Cape Cod Times reports.

"When I finally walked up to the bike ... I was like, 'Wow! That's my bike! I know that's my bike!'" Brown told the news source. "It was like finding a long lost friend."

The Associated Press reports that it was Brown's wife, Deirdre Olinger, who had first spotted the "long lost friend" during a walk. Recognizing it from Brown's stories, Olinger knew it was the same.

"I passed the bike, I caught it out of the corner of my eye, and then I thought ... 'Wait a minute what kind of bike was that?'" Olinger told the Cape Cod Times. "I saw that it was a banana seat and just about the right size for an 11-year-old girl."

The couple plans on either taking the bike home to be used as art, or letting it stay in its home -- the woods.
