Apple has been fined 900,000 euros by an Italian watchdog for misleading customers about warranties that each Apple product came with.
The Antitrust Authority in the country stated that the fine has been imposed as Apple did not take adequate measures to inform its consumers about their legal rights to have a 2 year long technical support. Apparently, the consumers in the country were all under the false assumption that their Apple products came along with just one year warranty period.
The watchodog also said that due to Apple's actions, the company's customers in Italy were paying extra for technical support service. Apple, as of now, has not reacted to the verdict.
The officials also clarified that the penalties will be applicable to Apple Sales International, Apple Italia as well as Apple Retail Italia.
"Sanctions of a total of 900,000 euros have been imposed on the Apple group after it was found responsible for bad commercial practices that harmed consumers," read a statement by the Antitrust Authority, according to an AFP report.
The iPhone maker Apple gave "unclear information on payments for additional assistance offered to consumers," it added.
